Gorsuch Hearing Today

Neil M. Gorsuch, who has been nominated to the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, began his Senate Judiciary Committe hearing today. We will post details of the hearing tomorrow. Our endorsement statement is available at http://www.rnla.org/Members/PDF/Endorsement-47.PDF.

Mr. Gorsuch is a former RNLA Member, and we are honored to extend our endorsement to him. Even the ABA, which in recent months appears to be using its judicial ratings for partisan designs, unanimously granted Mr. Gorsuch a Well Qualified Rating. He is a superb nominee who will not seek to legislate from the bench.

Also, this month's RNLA newsletter, The Republican Lawyer, features an article by RNLA Executive Director Michael Thielen who discusses recent disturbing trends by both the new leadership of the ABA and the Democrats in Senate for mistreating judicial nominees. Check it out at http://www.rnla.org/Newsletter/ViewArticle.asp?ArticleID=193. We only hope that these new trends will not be used against Gorsuch or other nominees.

Comments:
I'm happy to see that Specter has stepped on the gas a bit on judicial nominations. Obviously, the ABA did not want to pick a fight on Gorsuch's nomination and one look at his resume on the DOJ website will show you why. This is another great pick from President Bush for the 10th Circuit. IMHO Gorsuch has the kind of education and experience that will put him on a SCOTUS shortlist for some future Republican president. Now on to Boyle, Haynes, Wallace and Myers.
