Judiciary Chairman on a Tear

Senator Specter evidently wowed them over at the America Spectator. In a wide ranging discussion, mostly on the record, he discussed the confirmation process and even offered the opinion that the Democrats lost Daschle and a number of other Senators over the filibustering of judicial nominees. According to the indespensible "Confirm Them" folks it looks like he won over quite a few in what could be a hostile forum to him.

He seems favorably inclined to split up the 9th Circuit. It is rare for one Senator to criticize another by name, but Senator Specter made clear he was taken aback by Senator Schumer's treatment of Judge Alito during confirmation. All in all a remarkable performance.

Comments:
"We will split the [9th Circuit]." I sincerely hope Specter follows through on this one. The 9th has its defenders on the Left, but even Chuck Schumer, not exactly a right-wing idealogue, has said that the 9th is "the most liberal court" in the country and he should know. Unfortunately, a vast amount of territory, and a large number of people live under the jurisdiction of the most overrturned circuit in the land.
