The ABA Under Fire for Wallace Rating
On Wednesday, July 26, The Wall Street Journal called Michael Greco, current ABA President, and Stephen Tober, chairman of the ABA Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary to the carpet on the partisan use of the Committee's ratings for judicial nominiations, demonstrated in Michael Wallace's "not qualified" rating.
As the article notes, this mistreatment has not passed the notice of the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman. Senator Specter has repeatedly requested a report from the ABA regarding this rating and has been repeatedly ignored. He attempted to get them to submit a report by scheduling a hearing for Wallace last week, but this failed. Today, the Committee will consider whether to issue subpoenas relating to ABA reports in their weekly business meeting. These struggles give Specter further leverage for potential reforms of the judicial nomination process.
The misuse of the judicial rating process in Wallace's nomination makes the letter we will submit to the ABA even more relevant towards preserving the ABA's role in judicial nominations. Please take this opportunity to read and sign the letter at the top of this blog.
