A Different Controversy
As part of a deal, the Bush Administration nominated liberal Janet Neff for a position on the U.S. District Court in Western Michigan. The New York Times identified her as a "judge" at a "same-sex commitment ceremony" in Massachusetts in 2002 before such ceremonies were legal. Senator Brownback (R-KS), concerned that the Judge may have broken the law, placed a hold on her nomination until questions could be resolved.
