RNLA Member Levey Responds to LA Times Editorial
Curt Levey, the general counsel for the Committee for Justice in Washington DC as well as a long-time member of the RNLA, recently responded to an LA Times editorial with a letter of his own concerning the role of Chief Justice John Roberts on the Supreme Court.
Levey defends the role of Roberts as an "umpire" on the bench, acknowledging it as a safeguard against judicial activism. In essence, Roberts ensures that objective federal law remains supreme over subjective judicial decisions. As Roberts told the Senate during his confirmation hearings: "My job is to call the balls and strikes, and not to pitch or bat. It is a limited roleā¦. Nobody ever went to a ballgame to see the umpire."
