Third Delay for Southwick

The Senate Judiciary Committee delayed the Southwick vote for the third time today, but this time it was at the request of Senator Specter. Senate Democrats have what look like enough votes to defeat the Southwick nomination and were prepared to do so at today's meeting. It would be extremely unfortunate if this highly qualified judicial nominee, who sat on the Mississippi court of appeals for 12 years were to be blocked from reaching the Senate floor and getting confirmed. The 5th Circuit seat that Southwick is up for has been vacant, with the exception of a recess appointment of Judge Pickering in 2004, for seven years now because Democrats refuse to allow any white male Bush nominee from the South to get confirmed, no matter how qualified or how long the seat has to stay open.
