Judge Mukasey's "Unique Perspective"
Judge Mukasey's experience from the 1993 "Blind Sheik" case demonstrates not only his legal acumen, writes John Podhoretz in the New York Post, but also his sacrificial attitude towards his service on the bench. Because of threats against his life due to this case, Judge Mukasey and his wife were under a 24 hour "security cocoon" for 10 years, with federal marshals accompanying them everywhere. Podhoretz writes:
"'You get used to it,' Judge Mukasey told me once. And he spoke with great respect and affection for the marshals, who themselves had to make great sacrifices to protect him and his family...For his service to his country as a U.S. district court judge, Mukasey was compelled to surrender his freedom, in a certain sense, for a decade... Mukasey was a great public servant, and he will be a most distinguished attorney general."
