Calls for Timely Confirmation
President Bush has consulted and cooperated with the Democrats to an extraordinary degree on his selection of Judge Mukasey as the next Attorney General. The ball is now in their court to put aside partisan politics and promptly confirm Judge Mukasey.
Two GOP Senators stated:
"In recent months, my Democratic colleagues have loudly voiced their belief that partisan politics has no place at the Department of Justice. With today's nomination and forthcoming confirmation process of Judge Mukasey, they will have an opportunity to demonstrate that." — Sen. John Cornyn. R-Texas.
"It is very important to act promptly and not get snarled in the requests [document subpoenas] that are outstanding." — Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa.
