Bush in STOU: Up or Down Vote for Nominees
In his State of the Union Speech last night President Bush stated:
I have submitted judicial nominees who will rule by the letter of the law, not the whim of the gavel. Many of these nominees are being unfairly delayed. They are worthy of confirmation, and the Senate should give each of them a prompt up-or-down vote. The Senate has yet to hold a hearing for any of President Bush's judicial nominees this year and this Congress has only confirmed six nominees. The Senate will need to confirm 11 more nominees to reach the historic average of 17 and nine more to reach the 15 nominees that President Clinton had confirmed in his last two years.
