Dan Traynor has been active in the Republican Party for many years. He has served as State Chairman for North Dakota from 2001-2003. He began volunteering on political campaigns in 1988. Dan served as Legislative Campaign Director for the North Dakota Republican Party during the 1992 election cycle, working to elect a Republican supermajority in the North Dakota House of Representatives. Dan also worked for the House Republican Caucus during the 1993 North Dakota Legislative Session. In 1992, he attended the Republican National Committee Campaign Management College. Dan was a delegate and on the Rules Committee at the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dan is a fifth-generation North Dakotan. He graduated with distinction from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1997. During law school Dan served as an extern for United States District Judge Patrick A. Conmy. After graduating from law school, he worked as a law clerk for Chief Justice Gerald W. VandeWalle of the North Dakota Supreme Court. Presently, Dan practices law with his dad and brother in the Devils Lake law firm Traynor Law Firm PC. He was the tenth member of his family licensed as a lawyer in North Dakota.
Dan is also an active member in his community of Devils Lake, North Dakota. He is involved in local and state bar associations, a board member of the Lake Region State College Foundation Board of Directors. Dan is a member of the Defense Research Institute and the American Law Institute.
