1/00-Present:General Counsel to the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America. Duties include handling a wide range of legal matters of concern to the association, coordinating litigation involving the Twenty-first Amendment, First Amendment, and the Commerce Clause, lobbying Congress in the interests of the association, and acting as a spokesperson and advocate for the wholesale tier of the alcohol beverage industry. I also serve as liaison to the state and federal law enforcement and regulatory community.

I served as an adjunct professor at the Washington College of Law at American University, teaching Legal Rhetoric to incoming law students. This two-semester course was designed to provide students with instruction in legal research, writing and advocacy skills, and an introduction to ethics.

6/98 Ė 1/00:Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee: Detailed from the Department of Justice to serve as counsel to the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Orrin G. Hatch. Responsibilities included drafting legislation, meeting with interested parties and lobbyists representing interests affected by proposed legislation, working with minority and majority counsel to reach agreement on appropriate language, and shepherding the bills through the legislative process. I was also assigned to prepare speeches, floor and committee statements, media and constituent talking points, letters and other related material, and to coordinate committee hearings. Additionally, I assisted the chairman and other senators in preparing for, and working through the issues involved in, the House impeachment and subsequent Senate trial of President Clinton.

2/95-6/98:Trial Attorney: Assigned as a prosecutor in the Criminal Division, Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section. Responsible for the preparation of child pornography, trafficking in children, obscenity, RICO and ďDeadbeat DadĒ cases for indictment, trial and appeal, the oversight of national and international criminal investigative projects, and providing advice and support to USAOís around the country related to the statutes governed by my section. Other duties included preparing sectional, divisional, and administrative comment on legislation impinging on section statutes and interests, and acting as a speaker, trainer and instructor.

Allegany County State's Attorney's Office (1/90-2/95)
Cumberland, MD

10/91-2/95:Assigned as the primary prosecutor in the Circuit Court Division. I brought 78 cases to jury trial, with charges ranging from DWI, Child Abuse and Rape, to First Degree Murder.

9/90-10/91:Responsible for the prosecution of cases and the conducting of preliminary hearings as an Assistant State's Attorney in the District Court Division.

1/90-9/90:Operated the Child Support Division. Directed a staff of three secretaries/paralegals and coordinated legal actions with the Department of Social Services.
