Mr. Wilson is a partner at Venable LLP, an American Lawyer 100 law firm. He is based in the Washington, D.C., office. His practice focuses on cross-border financial transactions, general business and corporate matters, export-import regulations, privacy controls, government contracts, and home and host country business regulation and foreign investment.
From 1985-88, Mr. Wilson served as Deputy and Acting General Counsel of the U.S. Treasury. He also served the Treasury as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Management from 1984-85 and represented the Treasury on numerous interagency boards.
From 1981-85 Mr. Wilson served as Associate Counsel to the President of the United States; General Counsel, Office of Administration, Executive Office of the President; and, Special Assistant to the President for Management.
Mr. Wilson received the Distinguished Service Award and the General Counselís Award (United States Treasury) and the Chief Counselís Award (Internal Revenue Service). He is a member of the Washington Institute of Foreign Affairs.
In his private sector experience, Mr. Wilson has represented public officials, as well as private individuals and large public and private entities in a variety of situations which require not only the resolution of an immediate legal issue, but also a longer-term, strategic solution. A number of these issues involved matters of considerable public sensitivity, both in the U.S. and in other countries.
Mr. Wilson is a frequent speaker and author on anti-money laundering issues and economic sanctions. He is a founding member of the Office of Foreign Assets Control Working Group.
Mr. Wilson has served as Chairman of the Goodwin House, Inc., Board of Trustees, a leading continuous care retirement community, for a number of years and as Chairman of the Goodwin House Foundation Board of Directors.
Mr. Wilson is an honors graduate of the University of Virginia, where he majored in Russian Studies and Foreign Affairs. He received his law degree from Georgetown University where he was an Editor of Law & Policy in International Business and a member of the National Champion Jessup International Moot Court Team. He and his wife, Lynn, have three children and reside in Arlington, Virginia.
