General Counsel and Vice President, Business and Corporate Affairs
As CSCI’s General Counsel, Brett Coffee manages the legal issues facing a leading government contractor, transactional partner and good corporate citizen. Brett’s legal background covers a wide range of issues, from corporate and governance matters, securities transactions and reporting, corporate finance and private equity structuring, intellectual property management and transactions, employment law, taxation and general domestic and international transactional work to bring a multifaceted approach to legal and regulatory compliance, client advocacy and creative transactional structuring.
As Vice President of Business and Corporate Affairs, Brett works with a team of technologists to develop partnerships with commercial technology companies and utilize those technologies to make government more efficient and effective while protecting CSCI’s intellectual property and commercial viability.
He also works with outside organizations to connect CSCI to the broader technology community. Brett serves as General Counsel of CSCI’s nonprofit sister organization, the SemperComm Foundation, and is active in the community, where he sits on the Fairfax County Small Business Commission, the Board of Directors of the Community Business Partnership, the Board of Directors for the DC alumni club for the University of Illinois, Chair Elect of the University of Illinois Urbana Campus Alumni Advisory Board, Operations Chair for Springfield Magisterial District for the Fairfax County Republican Committee, past Springfield District Representative, Secretary, Co-Chair of the By-laws Committee-Fairfax County Citizen Corps Council, the Central District Chair and the former Secretary of the Springfield District Council, Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce-Governance Task Force Chair, and member of the West Springfield Rotary Club, the Washington Metropolitan Area Association of Corporate Counsel and the Northern Virginia Technology Council-Public Policy Steering Committee and General Counsel Forum. He previously was a member of the Leadership Fairfax Board of Directors and Governance Committee. Brett is a member of the 2007 Emerging Leaders Institute class, and is a graduate of the 2008 Candidate Training Program and a current member of the Political Leaders Program through the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership.
Prior to joining CSCI, Mr. Coffee was in-house at commercial technology companies in California and in private legal practice in New York City.
Mr. Coffee has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Illinois, a Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law, and both a Master of Laws degree in Corporate and Business Law and a Diploma in Taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law, and is a member of the bars of New York, California, Virginia, D.C. and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Coffee is married to the former Lara Anderson, a lifelong resident of Northern Virginia, who sits on the Board of Directors of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce and Stars For Stripes. They live in Burke with their dogs Parker and Cole.
