Spanning over fifteen years in public service, law, and politics, Colin Newman has counseled leadership of all three branches of New Jersey state government and has served in the federal government at the White House and the United States Department of State.

Colin Newman currently serves as Director of the Office of Legal Counsel for the Governor of New Jersey, where he supervises the development of legal and legislative advice for Governor Christie and serves as a liaison to the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly. Earlier in the Christie Administration, Mr. Newman served as Senior Counsel and Assistant Counsel to the Governor, negotiating with the Legislature on behalf of the Governor on issues including economic development, energy programs, tax policy, and oversight of federal aid.

Before joining the Governorís office in 2011, Mr. Newman served as Chief Counsel to the Republican Caucus of the New Jersey General Assembly, where he provided legal advice to the Minority Leader and Republican legislators on legislative, policy, and ethics issues. Mr. Newman previously served at the White House as a legal aide to the Counsel to the President, where he functioned as a liaison to the 9/11 Commission and assisted with high-level government investigations. He also served as a congressional advisor on national security and war crimes issues at the United States Department of State, where he consulted both houses of Congress on diplomatic and military engagements and received the State Departmentís Meritorious Honor Award. Mr. Newman earlier held staff positions in the policy and budget offices of the Bush/Cheney 2000 presidential campaign and in the national security division of the 2000 Presidential Transition Team.

In addition to his public service, Mr. Newman worked in private practice at Patton Boggs LLP in Newark, New Jersey and Washington, DC, focusing on litigation, election law, and public policy. Mr. Newman began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable James R. Zazzali, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey.

A native of Chester, New Jersey, Mr. Newman graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Government and received his Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the National Eagle Scout Association and is admitted to practice law in New Jersey, New York, and the District of Columbia. He currently resides in Hunterdon County with his wife Ashlea and their son.
