Mr. Wilk has been involved in politics since 1984, when he successfully volunteered on the last Congressional campaign in Michigan where an incumbent was defeated in the general election. Before passing the Michigan Bar, he served as campaign manager, co-campaign manager or a volunteer for Gubernatorial, Congressional, State Senate, State Representative and various local races.
Mr. Wilk worked in the Michigan House and Senate all four years while earning his undergraduate degree with honors from the James Madison College at Michigan State University. During law school at Boston College, Mr. Wilk had an externship with a white collar criminal defense firm in Boston focusing on political corruption matters.
Following law school, Mr. Wilk joined the Government Policy Department at the law firm of Dykema, residing in their Lansing office. Since that time, his practice has focused on election, campaign finance, and lobby law compliance at the federal, state and local level. He is currently the Political Compliance Team Leader for Dykema. He represents corporations, trade associations, high net worth individuals, candidates, ballot campaigns, political action committees and issue advocacy groups. He regularly consults with these clients on a wide variety of political compliance matters.
He served as counsel for Governor John Engler's political funds and was counsel for two other Republican gubernatorial candidates. He also currently represents the political funds for several state elected officials. He has been involved in several election litigation cases, as well as regulatory matters concerning candidates and ballot question campaigns. He has represented client interests in disputes with both the Michigan Department of State and the Federal Election Commission.
He was a member of Lawyers for Bush-Cheney and assisted as Michigan counsel for the Bush presidential campaigns in 200 and 2004. Since 1996, he has served on Election Day as counsel for the Michigan Republican Lawyer Associationís Voter Integrity Program or the Michigan Republican Party. In 2005, he served as counsel in the post-election recount for the Mayor of the City of Detroit. In 2006, he served as counsel for the Repeal SBT ballot campaign, and as counsel for the Republican nominees for Michigan Governor and U.S. Senate.
