A West Point graduate. Over twenty years experience in human resource management, labor/employee relations, and employment/labor law, both domestically and on a global scale. At Celanese, has global responsibility for employee / labor relations and employment law for $7B world wide chemical company. During first 15 months at Celanese, was also the HR executive for one of the Celanese global business units-Celanese Acetate. As both an HR/ Employee/Labor Relations executive and Practice Leader-Labor/Employment Law, has been a member of the senior teams of a number of Fortune 500 corporations including:

•Frito Lay - Area Manager - Human Resources - Specialty Manufacturing Division ( 10 plants) & Industrial Engineering Group.

•Frito Lay - Employment/Labor Counsel.

•Atlantic Richfield - Manager Labor Relations & Employment Compliance.

•Continental Airlines-VP-Global Labor & HR-Pilots & Flight Attendants.

•US West Communications -VP-Employee Relations. Total HR support for six Divisions (10,000 non-union & union employees) and Corporate Labor for 40,000 union employees. Led a group of over 75 employees.

•Qwest Communications -VP-Global Labor (5 countries). After acquisition of
U. S. West, only HR executive to be retained by Qwest. Received competing
offers from IBM (V.P. Global HR M&A and Labor Relations) and SVP-HR-
Teletech.

•Teletech - SVP-HR- 25,000 global employees. Seven countries. Led over 100 employees. Including V.P. Field HR and V.P. Corporate HR, Director of Compensation, Director of Benefits and Director of Staffing.

• Graphic Packaging, a Coors family company. Director-Human Resources Corporate HQ & Specialty Products Division and Employment/Labor Law practice leader).18 U.S Sites & 1 in Canada. 6,500 employees.

Extensive experience in all aspects of global Labor/Employee Relations (labor strategy, collective bargaining, union avoidance, etc.) and Human Resources (staffing, executive search, leadership development, training and compensation). Considerable experience providing advice and representing management in all aspects of global labor and employment law. Substantial HR & legal experience in mergers and acquisitions, large restructurings, corporate campaigns and complex investigations. Has managed teams of over 100 employees.

Major Accomplishments include:

•Developed and implemented a global-corporate wide labor/employee relations strategy for six major employers: Frito Lay, Atlantic Richfield, Continental Airlines, US West Communications, Qwest and Celanese.

•At Celanese, provided both labor, HR and legal advice on two global restructurings. The first involved merging three separate divisions into one entity to create the global Consumer & Industrial Products ( CIS) Division. The second involved the creation of a global R&D function in the CIS division and the downsizing, relocation or closure of facilities in 6 countries, mostly Europe.

•Led the development and implementation of the bargaining strategy to restructure Celanese’s Belgium manufacturing site. Achieved bargaining goals without a labor dispute.

•Led the effort to successfully resolve a wildcat strike at Celanese’s
Pardees, France manufacturing Site.

•Led the development and implementation of the Celanese Mexico multi-site bargaining strategy. Developed a new bonus plan for hourly employees that better aligned them with the management team.

•At Continental Airlines successfully negotiated a contract with the Flight Attendants in record time. Agreement included best in class language, including a productivity improvement program to minimize disruptions and reduce absenteeism.

•A member of the due diligence teams on two large global mergers: The US West-Qwest and Graphic Packaging-Riverwood mergers.

•At Celanese, developed and presented to the CEO a proposal to retain key technical and R&D employees located in four countries.

•Led the bargaining team at US West during an 18 day strike involving 36,000 employees. After 18 days the union gave up and returned to work. This contract included the first pay for performance plan for network technicians in the former Bell system ( RBOC’s). In addition, US West successfully resisted the union’s demand to sign a neutrality agreement. US West was the only RBOC who implemented a pay for performance plan for union employees and did not sign a neutrality agreement.

•Defeated an organizing Drive by the IAM to unionize 10,000 ground service workers at Continental Airlines.

•Designed and implemented a strategy to successfully file a unit clarification petition (UC) at Atlantic Richfield (ARCO). This UC petition broke up three multi-location contracts into 8 local contracts; resulting in the decertification of three of those local contracts.

•Developed the strategy to successfully obtain a permanent injunction against an international union for publicly protesting against a large telecommunications corporation.

•Led the bargaining team at Graphic Packaging’s manufacturer’s largest mill which resulted in a 26 week lockout. The union surrendered and returned to work for less than the original offer. Successfully defended 13 Unfair Labor Practices during this negotiation.

•As an attorney with the law firm of Jackson Lewis, one of the largest labor & employment law firms in the country, prepared a preventive labor strategy for SYSCO Foods and Texas Health Resources (THR); the largest health care provider in the Dallas- Fort Worth area ( 16,000 employees, 14 acute care hospitals).

•At Celanese, successfully negotiated the conclusion of a lockout, which resulted in a labor contract which reduced wages for non-core employees by 25 %. Also soundly defeated the Teamsters in a union election at a key manufacturing facility.

•Author of two copyrighted training programs, Performance Management Boot Camp – How to Improve Performance and Minimize Litigation, and Leadership at Work - How to Stay Union Free Using the Art of Positive Employee Relations.

•Led a team to develop and implement the first Global HR strategy at Teletech.

•Using best in class processes, designed the first global Talent Review Process (TRP) at Teletech. Led the first TRP process for the HR division.

•Prior to business career, spent five years in the military as an Army officer. In addition to other assignments appointed as a Company Commander, while still a First Lieutenant. Selected as an Aide de Camp to both the deputy and the base commander at Ft. Dix, N. J. ( One Star & Two Star Generals respectively).

•Upon graduation from West Point, was invited to return to the Academy to teach in the Political Science & Economics Department ( SOSH department).

•Former member of the Board of Directors of the Human Resource Policy Association ( HRPA). A member of the XBHR, a group of global HR, legal and other executives who have worldwide responsibilities. Also a member of the International Labor & Employment Law Section of the ABA. Licensed to practice law in Texas and Pennsylvania.

•Former Director of the Adopt-A-Platoon Program (AAPP). Through this program, various employers and civic groups have adopted U. S. Army and U.S. Marine platoons serving in Iraq & Afghanistan and provide the troops with letters and care packages. Currently providing support to three Iraq based Army units.

•Received a B.S. from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Areas of concentration at the Academy included National Security/Public Affairs and Electrical Engineering.

•Holds an M.A. in Human Resource Management from Pepperdine University. Received a “with high distinction” grade on the written comprehensive exam.

•J.D. from the Widener University School of Law. Concentrated in labor & employment law. At Widener, was a finalist in the Moot Court competition and selected as a member of the Moot Court Honor Society. Graduated in the top 30% of his law school class.

•Worked full time while attending graduate school and law school.
