Russ Ferguson graduated with distinction from Duke University and then was appointed by President Bush to be the Confidential Assistant to the Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice. Russ then went on to work in the Bush White House in the Office of Counsel to the President.

After graduating law school, Russ worked as a Special Assistant United States Attorney at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and as Legislative Counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

After then completing a federal clerkship with U.S. District Judge Frank D. Whitney, Russ is currently employed as an attorney at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice in Charlotte.
