Eric has over 15 years experience working with and for the Department of Defense, Congress, and NASA including over three years in private sector government relations, four years on Capitol Hill, three years in the Pentagon, and over six years on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. Eric joined Etherton & Associates from Russ Reid, a Washington-based government relations firm, where he was Vice President and headed the firmís Defense Practice. At Russ Reid, Eric provided defense consulting and government relations services to defense companies, hospitals, universities, municipalities, and international NGOs.
During his tenure on Capitol Hill, Eric served as a senior aide to former House Appropriations Committee member Rep. Dave Weldon (FL), handling defense, homeland security, NASA, science, transportation, criminal justice, and foreign affairs issues. From 2006-2007, he was Congressman Weldonís designee to the Science, State, Justice, Commerce Appropriations Subcommittee when Rep. Weldon served as Subcommittee Vice Chairman. Much of Ericís work entailed civilian and military space issues affecting Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, the major employers in Congressman Weldonís district. Eric also served as Director of the House Aerospace Caucus and founding Director of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus and was a staff leader of the NASA House Action Team.
Eric previously served as Military Legislative Assistant and principal defense advisor to Rep. Randy Forbes (VA), a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) and current Chairman of the HASC Readiness Subcommittee. He managed Congressman Forbesí defense, homeland security, and foreign affairs legislative portfolios. Eric also served as the founding Director of the Congressional Modeling & Simulation (M&S) Caucus and Director of the Navy & Marine Corps Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Before working on Capitol Hill, Eric served for over three years on the Air Staff in the Pentagon at the GS-13 level. During his over six years on active duty in the Air Force, Ericís service included duty as the C-130/F-5 Weapon Systems Manager for the Navy and Marine Corps at Naval Inventory Control Point Philadelphia (NAVICP) where he managed the wholesale contracting and acquisition logistics for over 140 aircraft. His Air Force career also included duty as an F-16 and C-130 aircraft maintenance and munitions officer, assignment in the Defense Logistics Agency, and service on the US/ROK Combined Forces Command staff at Camp Walker, Taegu, Republic of Korea (ROK).
Eric currently serves as a Major in the Air Force reserves as an F-16 aircraft maintenance and munitions officer and maintains a Top Secret security clearance. Ericís military awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal. Eric was selected as the Defense Energy Support Center Reservist of the Year for 2005. He is a graduate of the USAF Air Command and Staff College (ACSC).
