William J. Kresse is one of three Commissioners on the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners, the independent agency that runs elections in the City of Chicago. Kresse is also an Assistant Professor in the College of Business of Governors State University. Kresse is an attorney, a Certified Public Accountant / Certified in Financial Forensics, a Certified Fraud Examiner, and a Certified Forensic Accountant. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners named Professor Kresse “Educator of the Year” in 2007. Kresse holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (Accountancy) from the University of Notre Dame, a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois.
Known as “Professor Fraud”(R), Kresse has appeared widely in the media, including the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, The Christian Science Monitor, the Dallas Morning News, NewsMax, CBC, NPR, WGN, FOX, CBS, NBC, PBS and ABC. Kresse wrote for the New York Times Online and authored the “Professor Fraud” blog on the Chicago Tribune’s Chicago Now online site. Kresse has authored or co-authored numerous articles appearing in such journals as Issues in Accounting Education, The International Journal of Learning, The Journal of Academic Administration in Higher Education, Performance Improvement Quarterly, Review of Business Research, Fraud Magazine, and Police Chief Magazine.
Before entering academia, Kresse worked in the audit division of a major international CPA firms, served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Abraham Lincoln Marovitz of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and worked as an associate attorney for major Chicago law firms.
Kresse has served as a Member of the Board of Directors, and Chair of the Audit Committee, for Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, and on the Audit Comittee of the College of DuPage. Kresse has also served as a Hearing Officer for the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners and the Cook County Electoral Board, and as an arbitrator for the Cook County Circuit Court Arbitration Program. Kresse has served as a member of the Board of Directors of both the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Foundation and the Northern District of Illinois Court Historical Association.
