Jim Bowen is President of Momentum Development Corporation, a principal investment and investment management firm. Through an affiliate, Momentum Ventures, Inc., Jim promotes private equity transactions in energy-related assets in the $5 to 50 million range, leads investment participation in energy-related emerging technologies, and promotes minority investments in larger energy assets.
He has recently been serving as a Senior Legal and Commercial Advisor to the Ministry of Mines of Afghanistan, assisting the nation in marketing its oil and gas resources.
Jim worked at McKinsey & Company, a management consulting firm, from 1995 to 2002. He remains a Senior Advisor to McKinsey. From 1993 to 1995, he was an attorney with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, L.L.P. Before law school, he served eight years on active duty in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer in the 82d Airborne Division and in Korea. He retired from the Army Reserve in 1990 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Jim has been active in Republican politics since leaving the Army, serving in several capacities in local, state, and federal campaigns.
He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point (B.S. in Economics), the Harvard Law School, and the University of London (M.Sc. in Financial Management). He is presently enrolled in the LL.M. program in Energy Law and Policy at the Centre for Energy and Minerals Law and Policy of the University of Dundee.
