John D. Dakmak is a Senior Attorney in Clark Hillís Litigation Practice Group. John focuses his litigation practice in the areas of white collar criminal defense, administrative, and business litigation. John began his legal career as law clerk to the Honorable Michael J. Kelly in the Michigan Court of Appeals. Following his clerkship and continuing for ten years, John was a prosecutor in the Wayne County Prosecutorís Office and the Michigan Department of Attorney General. As a prosecutor, John handled complex criminal litigation matters such as cold-case homicide, narcotics trafficking, tax evasion, criminal enterprise, political corruption, and fraud prosecutions. John worked with many members of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in several inter-jurisdictional task forces ranging in scope from violent crime reduction initiatives to the investigation and prosecution of white collar criminal enterprises. John also served as the Director of Legislative Affairs for the Michigan Attorney General giving him in-depth exposure to the Michigan Legislature and Governorís Office.
Since leaving the Michigan Department of Attorney General in 2009, John has focused his practice on defending those accused of criminal offenses and representing parties in civil litigation. John has first-chaired over 250 trials to verdict. When it comes to criminal defense, John has represented clients in state and federal courts from the investigative process through trial and post-trial relief.
John has also represented clients as it relates to state and federal administrative matters such as professional licensing investigations. John has extensive experience in successfully representing clients, both individual and corporate, in these matters that many times involve a potential criminal prosecution component. Johnís years of experience as a prosecutor have given him the ability to issue spot such legal hazards that may originally be unknown to a client.
Because of Johnís extensive experience in government, he is able to work closely with federal and state attorneys and investigators from agencies such as the U.S. Attorneyís Office, Michigan Attorney Generalís Office, FBI, DEA, Secret Service, ATF, ICE, Department of Labor, HUD, HHS, Michigan State Police, and Michigan Department of Community Health, while always putting his clientís interests and well-being first.
John is licensed to practice law in all Michigan state courts, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.
