After graduating with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, Ray clerked for the Honorable (now Chief) Justice Mark Martin on the North Carolina Supreme Court. He then worked as an associate at Hunton & Williams LLP until becoming the General Counsel at the 2,000 employee NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. He subsequently became General Counsel and Sr. Policy Advisor to Speaker of the NC House Thom Tillis and now serves as Senator Tillis' Chief of Staff in Washington. He is active in the American Agricultural Law Association, is a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church, and lives in McLean, VA with his wife and their daughter, Victoria.
