RNLA Statement on the Nomination of William Barr to Be Attorney General of the United States

The Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA) congratulates the Honorable William P. Barr for his designation as nominee to be the United States Attorney General under President Donald Trump. Mr. Barr has previously addressed RNLA members and was on the RNLA’s Board of Visitors.

Mr. Barr served as the 77th Attorney General under President George H.W. Bush from 1991 through 1993, after working his way up through the Department of Justice. In 1991, he was confirmed by the Senate with a simple voice vote. He formerly served as Deputy Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel before ultimately leading the Department.

When confirmed, Barr will also become the 85th Attorney General of the United States. Mr. Barr’s leadership at the Department of Justice will be important as the Trump Administration continues to restore the rule of law.

RNLA Co-Chair Joanne Young noted: “William Barr is well known and widely respected throughout the legal community. His credentials are impeccable. He is the right pick for Attorney General.”

As RNLA Executive Director Michael Thielen explained: “President Trump’s selection of William Barr for Attorney General is an excellent choice. General Barr’s knowledge of the Justice Department and legal experience is second to none. He should garner bipartisan support for his confirmation, like he did under President Bush.”

The RNLA is the national organization of Republican attorneys. The mission of RNLA is to advance professionalism; open, fair, and honest elections; career opportunity; and Republican ideals. For more information, please visit www.rnla.org.
