Sinema and Manchin Aren't Buying Schumer's Hysterics and Neither are the American People

On Wednesday, Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer continued his campaign against the filibuster in the name of passing a federal takeover of elections. But Democrat Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema are not buying Chuck Schumer's filibuster hysterics. Manchin expressed his continued hesitancy with making changes to the filibuster to a pool of reporters on Tuesday: "To being open to a rules change that would create a nuclear option, that's very, very difficult. That's a heavy lift… Anytime there's a carveout, you eat the whole turkey."

Axios reports that Sinema also continues to resist changes to the Senate rules:

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), also a key holdout to major filibuster reform, reiterated during the Democratic lunch she will not support any effort to get rid of the 60-vote threshold, according to two sources familiar with the call.

Sinema has been having one-on-one talks with her colleagues for weeks, one of the sources said.

It's no wonder that Manchin and Sinema do not want the filibuster to be abolished in the name of the Left's radical election proposals—Americans are not on board with these proposals. For instance, Joe Manchin's constituents overwhelmingly reject the kinds of "reforms" that his party is pushing.

Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said on the Senate floor today:

“The American people are not buying the nonsensical talk of ‘Jim Crow 2.0’ or a voting rights crisis. Everybody apart from far-left activists and the press understands this emperor has no clothes. A few months ago, even voters in blue New York rejected multiple ballot measures to soften up election laws the way liberal activists want.

“This fake outrage is just a predicate for Washington Democrats to do something they have sought for years: Appoint themselves a nationwide board of elections on steroids.

“This is a takeover that Democrats have sought for multiple years, using multiple different justifications.

“It’s not a ‘voting rights’ bill. It is a sprawling, sweeping takeover of our democracy.

Senators Sinema and Manchin aren't buying Senator Schumer's hysterics and neither are the American people. As Leader McConnell noted, the American people see the Democrats' election bills for what they are, a "sprawling takeover of our democracy."
