The sole Republican on the Federal Election Commission, Caroline Hunter, published an op-ed in Politico today describing how her colleague Ellen Weintraub's attacks on President Trump and frequent tweets and media appearances are undermining the public perception, independence, and impartiality of the FEC:Read more
White House Counsel: The President will Fight an "Impeachment" Without Due Process as a Means to Overturn an Election
Yesterday, White House Counsel Pat Cipollone responded to the Democrats' efforts to subpoena information from the White House and Executive Branch officials, categorically rejecting their "constitutionally illegitimate proceedings." He notes that the Democrats are not allowing basic due process protections that the Supreme Court has declared must apply to congressional investigations:Read more
Democrats want President Trump’s tax returns and will do almost anything to get them. First there was the effort to keep him off the ballot in California by demanding his tax returns. This law, if upheld, would have had the effect of disenfranchising thousands of voters. Now the efforts turn to New York. A highly partisan DA looking to make waves found a Clinton-appointed Judge, Victor Marrero, to agree to issue a subpoena for President Trump’s tax returns from before he was President. As we stated regarding the House Democrats' similar subpoena effort:
This subpoena is not a legitimate tool of oversight of the Executive Branch but instead an effort to investigate actions taken by a private citizen due to his subsequent political positions and activity.Read more
After issuing a preliminary injunction against California's law requiring presidential candidates to release their tax returns before appearing on the ballot -- a clear attack on President Trump -- a couple weeks ago, a judge on the Eastern District of California issued an order yesterday explaining the basis for finding the law unconstitutional on several grounds. RNLA leaders and members have been leading the fight against California's anti-Trump law: Harmeet Dhillon, Mark Meuser, Justin Clark, and Stefan Passantino are litigating the federal law challenge to the law, while Chuck Bell is litigating the state law challenge.Read more
RNLA Vice President for Communications and 2018 Republican Lawyer of the Year Harmeet Dhillon had a busy day pushing back against the efforts to #Resist President Trump. She wrote an op-ed defending Justice Brett Kavanaugh against the latest attacks by the Democrats and the liberal media and she won an injunction against California's thinly veiled effort to keep President Trump off the ballot next year.Read more
As we have chronicled, Democratic FEC Commissioner Ellen Weintraub has used her position to attack President Trump (along with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, other Republicans, and supporters of free speech) in a variety of ways, including through the altFEC Twitter account operated by her staff and writing a letter to President Trump on FEC letterhead questioning his claims about voter fraud in New Hampshire and asking him to produce evidence. At the request of the Cause of Action Institute, headed by RNLA member John Vecchione, the FEC Inspector General inquired as to whether Commissioner Weintraub had violated any ethical standards with her letter or not. Unfortunately, it concluded she had not.Read more
Despite criminal referrals and the involvement of ne'er-do-wells like Michael Avenatti, one group, “Demand Justice,” is continuing its groundless attacks on Justice Brett Kavanaugh. As Ashe Schow writes in the Dailywire in an article entitled “Former Hillary Clinton Spox Is Trying To Get Brett Kavanaugh Fired From His Teaching Job:”Read more
Hit Stories on Former Trump White House Attorney "Another Demonstration of the Ugly Politics of Personal Destruction"
The mainstream media breathlessly reported over the weekend that two Trump attorneys had lied about the relationship between President Trump and his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen. This came after the House Oversight Democrats sent a letter containing the allegation of "evolving stories" to White House Counsel Pat Cipollone for a late Friday news drop. The House Oversight Democrats and the mainstream media chose to smear former White House ethics attorney and current RNLA Board of Governors member Stefan Passantino for making false statements because of notes taken by Office of Government Ethics staff regarding one statement he made regarding his understanding of the nature of the attorney-client relationship between President Trump and Mr. Cohen:Read more
While the ABA, nonpartisan and Republican legal circles all agree that Thomas Farr is well qualified to be a District Court Judge, Senator Schumer and DC-based liberal judicial smear groups are attacking Mr. Farr. The irony is that the items they are attacking him for are supported by Democrats!
First, Mr. Farr is being attacked for defending North Carolina’s voter ID law for his client, the state of North Carolina. Putting aside the lawyer's ethical duty to his clients, voter ID is supported by a large majority of Democrats in every survey released. The most recent survey put the numbers at 63% support for a photo ID requirement from Democrats and more interesting, 69% support from lower-educated Democrats.Read more
The real question now is why does the media give Michael Avenatti any air time? Before we get into the legal substance of one of his cases and while Republican opposition to Avenatti needs no explanation, we note that there is bipartisan opposition to Avenatti. For example, former New York Democrat Rep. Steve Israel wrote an Op-Ed in The Hill entitled "Michael Avenatti, please go away" and even Avenatti acknowledged Democrats hate him:
Establishment Democrats, Avenatti said, are trying to “discredit” him “so they can nominate some schlocky establishment Democrat” for president.Read more
