Will Biden Backtrack on Title 42?

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · April 20, 2022 5:55 PM

While Title 42, a public health policy that many see as the only thing stopping massive numbers of migrants from attempting to cross the southern border, is expected to expire in May, President Biden is now feeling pressure from his own party to keep the policy in place. Of course, Democrats' opposition to the policy probably has more to do with their vulnerable status in the upcoming midterms rather than a desire for stronger border security:

While the move to end Title 42 has certainly sparked backlash from Republicans who support hard-line immigration policies, a great deal of Democrats, several who are up for re-election or seeking other positions, are also expressing concern over its planned removal as conditions at the southern border continue to deteriorate.

Republican AGs File Suits to Quell Coming Border Surge

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · April 06, 2022 5:02 PM

On Monday, the attorneys general from Arizona, Louisiana, and Missouri announced that they would be filing a suit challenging the expiration of Title 42, a public health order that allows the federal government to expedite the removal of migrants. Fox News reported:

The Republican states’ lawsuit argues that the Biden administration’s ending of Title 42 is not only bad policy, but is in breach of the notice-and-comment requirements set out in the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) and is "arbitrary and capricious" -- grounds under which other immigration policies have been struck down. A CDC spokesperson told Fox News that it does not comment on pending litigation.

Senate Republicans Call on Judiciary Dems to Hold Hearing on Biden Border Crisis

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · September 03, 2021 7:13 PM

Senate Judiciary Republicans led by Chuck Grassley are calling on Chairman Dick Durbin to call a hearing on President Joe Biden's worsening border crisis:

“It is time for this Committee’s willful blindness to the situation at our southern border to come to an end. It is not a ‘challenge,’ and it is not ‘seasonal.’ It is a crisis of historic and monumental proportions that deserves this Committee’s immediate attention,” the senators wrote. “No matter how much the Committee majority may want to ignore the crisis at the southern border and neglect its responsibilities to conduct oversight of the Biden Administration’s immigration policies, it can do so no longer.”

Biden's Border Crisis is at an All-Time High

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · July 29, 2021 1:42 PM

Biden's Border Crisis has reached an all-time high. To add to the chaos, Axios reported earlier this week that the Biden Administration has released 50,000 people who crossed the southern border illegally without giving them a court date. Unsurprisingly, only 13% of them have reported to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office like they were directed to.
