Contrast in Court Decisions Related to President Trump This Week

Posted on Blog by Lisa Dixon · November 26, 2019 8:29 PM

Two court decisions this week concerning President Trump provide an interesting contrast.  The Supreme Court stayed a D.C. Circuit decision that would have required President Trump to provide his tax returns to House Democrats:

Book Review: Justice on Trial by Mollie Hemingway and Carrie Severino

Posted on Blog by John Vecchione · July 15, 2019 10:28 AM

“History will be kind to me because I intend to write it” is often ascribed to Winston Churchill.  Justice Brett Kavanaugh could do little better in presenting his case for history than this after-action report by Hemingway, a reporter for the Federalist and Severino, a former Thomas clerk and a participant in many of the judicial wars through her work at the Judicial Crisis Network.  Justice on Trial is chock-a-block with small, telling vignettes that only a participant or someone with impeccable sources could obtain.  For instance, Justice Kavanaugh’s suits being temporarily stored in a neighborhood kid’s treehouse and retrieved for him by the kid to avoid a hostile, untiring, and intrusive press siege of his house.  Similarly, the image of Senator Ted Cruz booming out “Treason!” in imitation of what the Democrats were likely to confront Justice Kavanaugh with will stick with the reader.

Despite these accomplishments, Senate Democrats continue their obstruction by holding up the confirmation of six more circuit court judges and 48 district court nominees.

Don McGahn Leaves Legacy of Strong Judiciary at White House Counsel

Posted on Blog by Lisa Dixon · October 18, 2018 4:58 PM

Yesterday was Don McGahn's last day as White House Counsel.  After serving President Trump as campaign counsel during his 2016 presidential campaign, Mr. McGahn served as White House Counsel during the pivotal first half of President Trump's current term.  He played a vital role in vetting and recommending attorneys who respect the rule of law to serve as federal judges, including Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.  With Mr. McGahn's advice, President Trump has nominated and the Senate has confirmed two Supreme Court justices, 29 U.S. Courts of Appeals judges, and 53 U.S. District Court judges.  Currently 57 Article III court nominees remain pending before the Senate.
