FEC IG Clears Ellen Weintraub for Trump Criticism on FEC Letterhead

Posted on Blog by Lisa Dixon · August 21, 2019 9:02 PM

As we have chronicled, Democratic FEC Commissioner Ellen Weintraub has used her position to attack President Trump (along with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, other Republicans, and supporters of free speech) in a variety of ways, including through the altFEC Twitter account operated by her staff and writing a letter to President Trump on FEC letterhead questioning his claims about voter fraud in New Hampshire and asking him to produce evidence.  At the request of the Cause of Action Institute, headed by RNLA member John Vecchione, the FEC Inspector General inquired as to whether Commissioner Weintraub had violated any ethical standards with her letter or not. Unfortunately, it concluded she had not.

There Seems a Better Reason for SDNY to Investigate Ocasio-Cortez than President Trump

Posted on Blog by Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA) · March 12, 2019 7:40 PM

The Department of Justice has zealously investigated President Trump for the myth of "Russian collusion" for over two years. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York has stretched federal election laws far beyond their reasonable boundaries to criminalize a payment to an alleged paramour, a personal expense.  Chairman Cummings hosted a known liar as his star witness.  Chairman Nadler has decided to substitute himself for the FBI, issuing over 80 investigative requests for information about the President.  Once he realized, to his chagrin, there was no "Russian collusion" finding forthcoming from Mr. Mueller, Chairman Schiff announced a broadened probe into the President's business affairs.

McConnell Blasts Weaponizing FEC and Points Out the Source of "Dysfunction"

Posted on Blog by Michael Thielen · March 07, 2019 8:06 PM

It is rare for a Senate Majority Leader to address legislation in the House.  That has changed with the unprecedented assault on our Democracy undertaken by the Democrats in the form of HR 1.  Or as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called it in a speech today, "The Democrat Politician Protection Act":

This week, Democrats in the House are expected to pass the sweeping legislation I call the Democrat Politician Protection Act. It aims to give Washington D.C. vast new control over elections, give tax dollars to political campaigns, and give election lawyers more opportunities to determine the outcome of elections.

Weintraub Will Not Allow FEC to Defend Itself in Court

Posted on Blog by Lisa Dixon · February 21, 2019 1:48 PM

Yesterday, Mother Jones reported that current FEC Chair Ellen Weintraub has decided to vote against allowing the FEC to defend its positions in court.  Because the FEC currently only has four members and the affirmative votes of four members are required for the FEC to take any official action, this means that Chair Weintraub will prevent the FEC from appearing in court to defend its position.

McConnell: HR 1 Would "Federalize Our Nation’s Elections" & Increase DC Bureaucrats' Power

Posted on Blog by Lisa Dixon · January 30, 2019 5:35 PM

Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made his first floor speech about the dangers of the House Democrats' flagship legislation, House Resolution 1 (HR 1).  He said it was only a "quick tour" and promised to come regularly to the floor to describe the problems in the lengthy "effort to rewrite the rules to favor Democrats and their friends" so that all Americans can know about the dangers of its provisions.

Weintraub's Staff Campaigns Against President Trump While Making Enforcement Decisions About Him

Posted on Blog by Michael Thielen · October 16, 2018 9:10 PM

(This is the last in a series of five posts on the demonstrated bias of Democratic FEC Commissioner Ellen Weintraub.  The first installment is here, the second here, the third here, and the fourth is here.)

FEC Vice Chair Ellen Weintraub's personal staff continues to mount a political campaign against President Trump at the same time they consider enforcement cases involving President Trump.  In many public pronouncements, Commissioner Weintraub's staff indicate they already have prejudged legal issues pending before the FEC.  Some tweets appear to be posted during regular government work hours.
