VP Harris Pushes Misinformation About Republican State Election Laws

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · July 22, 2022 6:08 PM

On Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris used a speaking engagement at the National Urban League Conference to push the Democrats' tired talking points about election laws in Republican states. Categorically, her statements were deliberately misleading at worst and misinformed at best.

On Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court is set to hear arguments over the fate of Act 77, Pennsylvania's controversial no-excuse absentee voting law. House Holds First, and Likely Only, Hearing on H.R. 4

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · August 23, 2021 7:42 PM

On Monday, H.R. 4 was heard in the House Rules Committee. This will likely be the bill's only committee hearing before a vote is taken by the whole House sometime later this week. If this seems strange, it is. House Rules does not typically have jurisdiction over election issues. Yet despite this, the Committee is being used as a vehicle to add amendments to the legislation.

States Must Protect Integrity of Mail Ballots in Response to Coronavirus

Posted on Blog by Lisa Dixon · March 18, 2020 11:41 AM

As states likely expand the use of mail ballots in response to the COVID-19 breakout, they need to also protect the integrity of mail ballots to prevent both the appearance of impropriety and actual fraud this November.  Lawyers Democracy Fund published a study last year by current Republican federal Election Assistance Commission(EAC) Commissioner Don Palmer (before he joined the EAC), describing some of the steps needed to protect the integrity of mail ballots and improve voter confidence in mail voting:

ICYMI: Voter ID=Suppression is a Myth, According to New Survey

Posted on Blog by Michael Thielen · February 21, 2020 5:37 PM

Democratic campaign committees and activist groups have been spending millions of dollars to fight against a range of legal obstacles on voting, believing that making voter registration easier and keeping polls open longer would inspire more Americans to turn out.

But to nonvoters themselves, those issues don’t seem to be at the forefront of their minds . . .

Structural issues such as voter ID laws and difficulty accessing polling places didn’t come up enough to even be marked in the Knight survey results.
