Record Turnout Busts Voter Suppression Myth

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · November 01, 2022 5:56 PM

One of the most pervasive narratives being pushed about our elections is that voting has become more difficult and voter suppression is rampant. However, Michigan's Democrat Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Georgia's Republican Secretary of State Brand Raffensperger teamed up earlier this week to bust this myth in an op-ed published by USA Today:

Voters in recent years have been inundated with disinformation telling them they can’t trust their fellow citizens and neighbors who administer elections. That voting is getting harder, and powerful forces are trying to prevent them from expressing their voice. That in a nation as closely divided as ours, the only secure election is one where the candidate they voted for wins.

Democrats' Disastrous Debate Night

Posted on Blog by Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA) · October 26, 2022 9:20 PM

With less than two weeks until Election Day, candidates are taking to the debate stage to face off on the issues. Last night, it did not go well for them. Blatant lies, misrepresentations, and even casual dismissals of the voters concerns were part of three Democrat candidates' playbook.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer was the classic example of this. While debating Republican candidate Tudor Dixon on Tuesday night, Whitmer claimed that schools were only closed for 3 months as a result of the COVID pandemic.

RNC Files Suits in MI and AZ

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · October 06, 2022 9:27 PM

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has filed multiple lawsuits this week in Michigan and Arizona seeking to defend the integrity of our elections. In Michigan, the RNC joined the Michigan Republican Party in suing Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Director of Elections Jonathan Brater for issuing "a new set of rules" regarding election challengers without following the proper procedure:

Those new rules, however, are directly inconsistent with the plain language of the Michigan Election Law, prior guidance issued by the Secretary of State, and current common practice. And despite the fact that this Court has held on at least two recent occasions that Secretary Benson issued rules in violation of Michigan’s Administrative Procedures Act (“APA”), see Davis v Benson, No. 20-000207-MZ, 2020 WL 7033534 (Mich. Ct. Cl. Oct. 27, 2020); Genetski v Benson, No. 20-000216-MM, 2021 WL 1624452 (Mich. Ct. Cl. Mar. 09, 2021), none of the new rules set forth in the 2022 Election Challenger Instructions were promulgated in accordance with the APA.

Republican Wins in State Supreme Courts Will Be Crucial This November

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · August 18, 2022 4:30 PM

State supreme court elections often fall under the radar, but issues like redistricting and the overturning of Roe v. Wade are raising their profile as we approach the 2022 midterm elections. As Politico explained:

Thirty states have or will hold state Supreme Court elections this year, in a combination of traditional elections or a retention vote — an up-or-down vote to decide if a judge should stay on the bench. And some of the biggest state Supreme Court contests this year map alongside traditional battlegrounds, like Michigan and North Carolina, while others creep into redder or bluer territory. . .

ICYMI: Alleged Scheme to Stop Election Integrity Petition Uncovered in Michigan

Posted on Blog by Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA) · May 20, 2022 5:24 PM

Last week, a complaint was filed with the Michigan Secretary of State's office alleging that a group opposing a Republican-supported petition campaign promoting election integrity violated campaign finance laws by carrying out a scheme to prevent the required number of petitions to enact the reforms:

Opponents of an effort to expand Michigan's voter identification requirements orchestrated a "scheme to pay off" petition circulators in violation of campaign finance laws, a complaint obtained by The Detroit News alleged.

Congressional Democrats Anti-Election Integrity Narrative Undermined by Reality in the States

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · October 14, 2021 7:13 PM

While Democrats in Washington deny the need for election integrity measures and continually try to undermine them with bills such as H.R. 1, H.R. 4, and the misnamed "Freedom to Vote Act," the past week has been a busy one across the country for allegations of voter fraud and election misconduct.

In Michigan, three individuals were charged with voter fraud after the state's voter integrity measures flagged their respective actions:

Michigan residents Trenae Myesha Rainey, Carless Clark and Nancy Juanita Williams have been charged with attempting to commit voter fraud following state investigations that resulted in accusations that the women improperly filed out ballot applications and ballots during the November 2020 general election, according to a state news release. . .

November 11th Litigation and Recount Update

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · November 11, 2020 4:54 PM

Earlier today, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced that the state would be conducting a hand recount of the Presidential race. Secretary of State Raffensperger noted that: "It will be an audit, a recount and a recanvass all at once." He expects the recount to be completed before the state's November 20th deadline to certify the results.

Trump Campaign Communications Director Tim Murtaugh told reporters earlier today: "This is an important first step in the process to ensure that the election was fair and that every legal vote was counted."
