Congress' Impeachment Power Should Not Go Unchecked

Posted on Blog by Michael Thielen · December 09, 2019 6:17 PM

In our continued focus on Democrats who oppose impeachment, today we focus on famous lawyer and law professor Alan Dershowitz, who makes a strong case against impeachment, again.  We say again because he also wrote a book about the first quasi-impeachment effort which became the Mueller report.  Dershowitz details how Maxine Waters' interpretation of Congress' impeachment power is wrong and dangerous.

There are those like Congresswoman Maxine Waters who argue that Congress can impeach on any ground a majority wishes. “There is no law,” she has asserted, because then power to impeach is vested solely in the House and there is no judicial review of its actions. Even if that were true — and it is debatable —Waters’ lawless and reductionistic view confuses what Congress can get away with, as distinguished from what the Constitution obliges its members to do: namely to apply the criteria set out in the Constitution.

Judge Authorizes Release of Grand Jury Materials from Mueller Investigation

Posted on Blog by Michael Thielen · October 28, 2019 6:48 PM

President Obama appointee Beryl A. Howell cleared the way for House Democrats to further leak and try to politically damage the President when she authorized the release of grand jury materials from the Mueller investigation. This violates one of the fundamental principles of grand juries: that their proceedings must be kept secret.  As Margot Cleveland wrote in the Federalist:

Access to the grand jury materials won’t transform the House’s proceedings into a “full and fair impeachment inquiry”—it will just give the Democrats more information to selectively leak to the press. . . .

[T]here’s no need to look beyond the closed doors of the committees to conclude that the Democrats aren’t requesting the grand jury materials to avoid an injustice—but to avoid a reelection.

An Attorney General with Honor v. a Wingman

Posted on Blog by Michael Thielen · August 27, 2019 8:22 PM

If journalists were remotely objective, they would praise Attorney General Bill Barr for releasing virtually the entire “Mueller report.”  On the other hand, if they were objective, they would condemn Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder for his complete stonewalling of the Fast and Furious investigation.  That said, the rare objective journalist Sharyl Attkisson is still working on getting the truth of the Eric Holder Justice Department’s Fast and Furious scandal (emphasis in original):

Democrats' Mueller Show is a Flop

Posted on Blog by Christina Norton · July 24, 2019 4:34 PM

Former special counsel Robert Mueller testified this morning for the first time in front of the House Judiciary Committee regarding his report on Russian interference in the 2016 election.

While Americans know that no collusion occurred between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, many questions remain regarding the false allegations against the President that started this probe in the first place.

Why did Mueller wait to tell the country that no collusion occurred?

Posted on Blog by Christina Norton · June 03, 2019 5:05 PM

As of April 2019 - we now know from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government during the 2016 election.

However, there are indications that as early as 2017 special counsel prosecutors knew that evidence would not establish the Trump campaign "conspired or coordinated" with the Russian.

The Difference: Barr versus Holder in Contempt

Posted on Blog by Christina Norton · May 08, 2019 3:46 PM

House Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are voting to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress. This is nothing more than political theater and a waste of Congress’ time.

Democrats Embarrassed Themselves at Barr Hearing

Posted on Blog by Christina Norton · May 02, 2019 9:02 PM

There was one consistent theme throughout the testimony of Attorney General Bill Barr yesterday – Democrats failed to get any of their attacks to stick and only accomplished embarrassing themselves at every accusatory question.

Top Moments of Barr Hearing

Today, Attorney General William Barr testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on the report by special counsel Robert Mueller.

He re-affirmed what we already know to be true: President Trump did not collude with the Russian government.

As expected, Democrats’ theatrics were put on full display throughout the hearing as they attacked AG Barr and accused him of petty mishandling of the report.
