ICYMI: Staten Island Grand Jury Report Reveals Voter Fraud in 2021 Race

Posted on Blog by Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA) · December 16, 2022 6:51 PM

In November, Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon released a grand jury report detailing allegations of voter fraud in a local election last year. The New York Post reported:

A Staten island grand jury has identified numerous instances of ballot harvesting fraud in a race for City Council last year — including a ballot submitted on behalf of a dead person and signature fraud involving dozens of other absentee ballots.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: This Week in Election Law

Posted on Blog by Michael Thielen · June 28, 2022 6:23 PM

The past week has been a good week for both Republicans and open, fair, and honest elections.  It has also been a downright bad and ugly week for the Democrat Party’s consigliere, Marc Elias.

First, the good: Yesterday, a New York Supreme Court Judge ruled that (like virtually everywhere else in the world) you have to be a citizen to vote in New York City:

Staten Island Supreme Court Justice Ralph Porzio also issued a permanent injunction that bars the city Board of Elections from letting around 800,000 non-citizen residents register to vote.

In a 13-page ruling, Porzio said city officials can’t “obviate” restrictions in the state constitution, which “expressly states that only citizens meeting the age and residency requirements are entitled to register and vote in elections.”

“There is no statutory ability for the City of New York to issue inconsistent laws permitting non-citizens to vote and exceed the authority granted to it by the New York State Constitution,” he wrote.

Republicans Push Back Against Noncitizen Voting

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth El-Rassy · December 20, 2021 3:56 PM

In an unprecedented action, the New York City Council approved legislation earlier this month that will give 800,000 noncitizen residents the right to vote in local elections. The New York Post reported:

After an unsuccessful 11th-hour attempt by more than a dozen Democratic and Republican lawmakers to send the legislation back to a committee to be adjusted, the bill passed the 51-member body 33-14 with two abstentions, sending it to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s desk.

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth El-Rassy · December 06, 2021 5:41 PM

New York City has some of the strictest COVID-19 restrictions in the United States—and they just got worse. Outgoing Mayor Bill de Blasio announced today that he would be expanding the city's vaccine mandate to apply to children ages 5 and older:

Children ages 5 to 11 must show proof of one vaccination dose to eat out, see a show, go to a movie theater, visit a fitness facility, or attend indoor entertainment venues by Dec. 14.

Bill de Blasio Highlights Campaign Finance Hypocrisy

Posted on Blog by Robert Sinners · July 25, 2019 8:23 PM

Like many Democrat candidates running for President in 2020, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has been an active proponent of campaign finance reform. According to OpenSecrets, "When he served as New York City’s public advocate in 2010, he penned an article in The Nation condemning Citizens United and called on state and local leaders across America to join him..."

And, like other 2020 Democrats, he doesn't think that the existing rules apply to him.
