Opposing the Weaponization of Government "Shouldn’t be a Partisan Issue"

Posted on Blog by Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA) · February 14, 2023 4:01 PM

Last week, the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government held its first hearing to discuss "the politicization of the FBI and DOJ and attacks on American civil liberties." A variety of topics were covered including the targeting of concerned parents, Biden family corruption, and the First Amendment.

Parents are NOT domestic terrorists. The American people agree.

The Biden Administration’s weaponization against parents is why the American people are losing trust in corrupt government agencies.@Weaponization is bringing accountability. pic.twitter.com/W2sEDTcWY7

House Republicans Issue Subpoenas on Unlawful Targeting of Parents

Posted on Blog by Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA) · February 03, 2023 6:24 PM

On behalf of House Republicans, Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan has issued a batch of subpoenas to Biden Administration officials regarding their role in the Department of Justice's (DOJ) alleged targeting of parents who stood up to local school boards for implementing woke policies. The Daily Caller reported:

According to the subpoena, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona is “commanded” to produce documents before the Judiciary Committee on March 1, 2023, at 9 a.m. ET. The subpoena comes as Jordan sent four letters to various officials Friday, calling for information and interviews the committee has been requesting, in a final warning shot before he sent the subpoena their way.

UPDATE: Pro-Lifer Acquitted After FBI Raid Last Year

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · January 31, 2023 6:33 PM

Last year, we reported on the FBI raid of Pennsylvania pro-life advocate Mark Houck's house in an apparent political move. Now, Houck has been acquitted of the federal charges brought against him relating to the incident:

A federal jury on Monday acquitted Catholic pro-life activist Mark Houck, who was charged with violating the FACE Act over a 2021 skirmish with a Planned Parenthood volunteer outside a Pennsylvania clinic.

New Report from House Judiciary Republicans Highlights Politicization of DOJ & FBI

Posted on Blog by Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA) · November 04, 2022 5:11 PM

Early Friday, House Judiciary Republicans released a new report entitled, "FBI Whistleblowers: What Their Disclosures Indicate About the Politicization of the FBI And Justice Department."

#BREAKING: Republicans Release 1,000 Page Report on FBI & DOJ Politicization

The report builds on various whistleblower disclosures describing the FBI’s Washington hierarchy as “rotted at its core” with a “systemic culture of unaccountability.” https://t.co/6psSABaaIk

— House Judiciary GOP (@JudiciaryGOP) November 4, 2022

In sum, the report explained:

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the stewardship of Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland, is broken. The problem lies not with the majority of front-line agents who serve our country, but with the FBI’s politicized bureaucracy. The problem lies, for example, with the FBI hierarchy that spied on President Trump’s campaign and ridiculed conservative Americans. The problem lies with FBI bureaucrats who altered and mischaracterized evidence to federal courts, circumvented safeguards, and exploited weaknesses in policies governing investigations and informants to target politically disfavored subjects and to protect favored ones. The problem lies with the FBI structure that centralizes high-profile cases in D.C., in the hands of politicized actors with politicized incentives. Quite simply, the problem—the rot within the FBI—festers in and proceeds from Washington.

House GOP Investigates PayPal and Schedules Interview with Former FBI Official

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · October 21, 2022 6:06 PM

On Tuesday, Republican House members sent a letter to PayPal asking for information about a controversial policy the company considered enacting that would essentially punish users for engaging in speech the company disagrees with:

The letter demanded that PayPal send House Republicans on the Energy and Commerce Committee and Financial Services Committee written answers to 15 questions about the circumstances surrounding the “Acceptable Use Policy,” which was published by PayPal on Oct. 8. The questions demand PayPal to name those who drafted the policy, who had the authority to approve it, and whether PayPal had coordinated with the Biden administration regarding it. . .

Pro-Lifer's House Raided by FBI

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · September 26, 2022 5:18 PM

A Pennsylvania pro-life advocate is scheduled to be arraigned on charges of violating FACE (Freedom of Access to Clinics Entrances Act) on Tuesday after the FBI stormed his house last week. Unfortunately, this appears to be another instance of Biden's DOJ targeting someone with opposing beliefs. The Federalist reported:

The arrest warrant shows Houck accused of “attacking a patient escort” at a Planned Parenthood facility in violation of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, a federal law used to restrict the actions of pro-life protesters and counselors in front of abortion facilities. Mark, who also runs a men’s ministry devoted in part to rescuing men from pornography addictions, made a habit of driving two hours to Philadelphia every week to spend his Wednesdays speaking and counseling in front of the Planned Parenthood – Elizabeth Blackwell Health Center.

On Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Canon declined to immediately issue a ruling on whether a special master will be appointed to review documents seized in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) raid on Mar-a-Lago in August. Fox News reported that Judge Canon said she would issue a ruling "in due course."

Transparency Is a Necessity for Recent DOJ and FBI Actions

Posted on Blog by Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA) · August 30, 2022 5:28 PM

The Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have rightly come under fire in recent weeks for their raid on former President Donald Trump's home and seizure of Congressman Scott Perry's personal cell phone. No doubt, transparency surrounding these actions is a necessity if the DOJ and FBI want to maintain any semblance of legitimate law enforcement agencies going forward.

Sen. Ron Johnson: No Place for Political Bias at DOJ and FBI

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · August 01, 2022 5:40 PM

Allegations are piling up accusing the DOJ and the FBI of engaging in political bias in favor of the Biden family in an investigation into Hunter Biden's laptop. But as Senator Ron Johnson said on Twitter: "Political bias has no place at the Department of Justice or the FBI."

Political bias has no place at the Department of Justice or the FBI.

The American people deserve the truth. I will continue to call for any potential corruption within our federal agencies to be investigated to the fullest extent of the law. https://t.co/IjF0p9TMzK

Senator Whitehouse Dons His "Dark Money" Tinfoil Hat Yet Again

Posted on Blog by Elizabeth Bradford El-Rassy · March 16, 2021 4:22 PM

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has donned his "dark money" tinfoil hat yet again. Unsurprisingly, Senator Whitehouse dubbed his first hearing as chairman of Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Oversight, Agency Action and Federal Rights: "What's Wrong with the Supreme Court: The Big-Money Assault on Our Judiciary."
