BIO

Don Ezzell is an American entrepreneur and lawyer with interests in financial services, law, oil & natural gas exploration, pipelines, hospitality, real estate development, and gaming. Don has served as a board member and an executive with public and private companies in North America, Hong Kong, Japan, Sweden, China, and the United Kingdom. He is a registered named executive officer with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.

Don serves as a principal with The General Counsel Group, P.C. and Sentry Trustees while revolving to serve in executive positions with public and private companies. He serves on the boards of Sentry Capital and Sentry Financial in Denver, Colorado.

Don operates two independent energy companies in North America including Dallas Energy Group (October 2010 – present) and The Owl Creek Energy Companies (April 2011-present). For fun, Don developed the Paso Robles Casino, Restaurant & Brew Pub.

Classically trained as a capital markets and corporate attorney, Don has executive officer experience in public companies, venture capital, media, mobile communications, gaming, hospitality, energy, and diversified energy and water infrastructure pipelines. Don has managed public and private companies from $2 million to $2 billion with up to 1,250 employees and participated in over 60 acquisitions and alternative investment transactions.  

From 2007-2011, Don was a founding executive at Nuverra (NYSE: NES/$440 million SPAC) and served as an operating director at its Energy Transfer/HEK Midstream subsidiary. Don took the company through IPO, NYSE listing and operating status while handling target selection, diligence, structure, closing, and post-closing executive officer duties including 3 years of foreign operations, JV board service, General Counsel & investor relations.

From 2000-2007, Don was in private practice as a corporate lawyer and managing partner of the new multi-state business law firm, The General Counsel Group, P.C. 

From 1998-2000 Don was the COO and GC of publicly listed Geoworks Mobile Software (NASDAQ: GWRX).

From 1989-1998, Don served in private practice as a corporate and M&A lawyer with Arter & Hadden LLP and Thelen, Reid & Priest LLP.   

Don is a member of the State Bar in Colorado, Texas, California, and Utah. He earned his B.A. from UCLA in 1985 and his Juris Doctorate from UC Hastings College of Law in 1989.

Don's hands-on operating executive and named executive SEC officer service at listed companies, and as a securities and corporate governance attorney, together with his knowledge of the energy sectors, hospitality, and internet communications can bring important and valuable skills to board service, teaching, mentoring, and ethics-in-business training of the next generation leaders in business and law.
