BIO

W. Stuart Dornette has substantial personal experience in complex litigation in state and federal courts within and outside Ohio. A former head of the litigation practice group at Taft Stettinius & Hollister, he has, for more than 30 years, been heavily involved in political strategy and, in particular, in the analysis of election results for the Republican Party, candidates, issues, and policy makers. Has served as legal counsel to numerous candidates and campaigns ' both federal and state ' providing services in a broad range of issues impacting the election and voting process. Has served as Special Counsel to Secretary of State Ken Blackwell through the 2001 apportionment effort. Has appeared before the Ohio Supreme Court, the Ohio Elections Commission, the Federal Elections Commission, federal district courts; and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals on campaign and election-related matters. Represented the President of the Ohio Senate and the Speaker of the Ohio House in litigation arising out of the 2021 state and federal redistricting in Ohio. Represented the relators in State ex rel. Painter v. Brunner, Ohio Supreme Court, 2011-Ohio-35, regarding the appropriate treatment of provisional ballots under Ohio law. Represented the Hamilton County Republican Party in an original mandamus action in the Ohio Supreme Court on the application of Title 35 to special congressional primary elections. Represented the Reagan-Bush campaign in federal litigation in Ohio and California on the staging of campaign events.
