Speaker Bio

Congressman Dan Bishop has been elected three times to the U.S. House, beginning with a special election in 2019.  He was previously elected to the North Carolina House and Senate and the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners.  In the 118th Congress, Dan serves on the Committees on the Judiciary and Homeland Security, the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, and chairs the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability of the Committee on Homeland Security.  He is also a member of the executive board of the House Freedom Caucus and was one of 20 members who contested the election of the speaker in January to negotiate for reforms in House procedure, personnel, and policy for the new Republican majority.

Before leaving the practice of law to enter Congress, Dan was a business litigator for nearly three decades.  He earned his law degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, where he graduated with high honors, top 10, and served on the North Carolina Law Review.  Dan has been married to his wife, Jo, for 25 years, and they have one son, Jack, who is in his first year at UNC Law.
