Bio
Justice, 14th Court of Appeals and host and creator of Wise About Texas.
Justice Ken Wise was appointed to the 14th Court of Appeals by Governor Rick Perry in October 2013. Prior to his appointment, Justice Wise served as the judge of the 334th Judicial District Court, administrative judge of Harris County, and an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center. Justice Wise is also a former judge of the 152nd Judicial District Court in Harris County. Justice Wise is a member of the State Bar of Texas and Houston Bar Association, life fellow of the Texas and Houston Bar foundations, and a member and past president of the Executives Association of Houston. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Texas State Historical Association and the Texas Historical Foundation and is an officer and Trustee of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society. He is also a director of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the Former Texas Rangers Foundation.
Justice Wise traces his ancestry back to the Republic of Texas in 1836. He was born and raised in Houston and attended Texas A&M University where he competed on the intercollegiate rodeo team. He earned his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center and practiced law for eight years before taking the bench. Justice Wise has studied Texas since his youth and has a tremendous passion for the stories and values that built Texas. He enjoys reading and writing about Texas history and has published multiple journal articles and is a very popular speaker on various Texas history topics. Justice Wise started his award-winning podcast “Wise About Texas” to preserve and promote Texas History.
