Bill O’Brien has served five terms in the NH House of Representatives, serving as Speaker from 2010 to 2012 and Republican Leader from 2014 to 2016.
As Speaker, Bill O’Brien left a lasting impact on New Hampshire’s political landscape. He spearheaded a significant reduction in state spending by 18% to address an $800 million budget deficit without increasing taxes. He also led numerous legislative reforms, such as implementing jury nullification and voter ID laws, introducing an online state checkbook, and eliminating over 80 business and consumer regulations. His legislative career reflected his commitment to conservative values and the ability of each of us in New Hampshire to effect meaningful change.
Bill’s extensive involvement with the NH Republican State Committee includes:
- Over 20 years of service.
- Chairing the Platform and By-laws Committees.
- Serving as Parliamentarian at the last seven NH GOP annual meetings and conventions.
Currently, he is the New Hampshire Republican National Committeeman, New Hampshire State Director for RNLA, and delegate to the 2024 Republican National Convention serving on the Rule committee. He also is President of the Pine Tree Public Policy Institute in New Hampshire, which among other things, hosts the twice monthly New Hampshire Center Right Meeting with Americans for Tax Reform.
Bill holds a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School and a Masters in Intellectual Property Law from the University of New Hampshire Law School. He founded a software services company in Nashua, has been granted eight patents, and has significant experience in legal and executive roles within the technology sector.
Bill and his wife, Roxanne, celebrate 50 years of marriage and have three children and seven grandchildren.
