Commissioner Mark Acton was reappointed to the Postal Regulatory Commission by President Barack H. Obama on December 12, 2016 for a third term of continued public service extending until October 14, 2022. Commissioner Acton was confirmed by the United States Senate on December 10, 2016. Commissioner Acton was nominated by President Barack H. Obama on May 12, 2011 for a second term of office through October 14, 2016. Commissioner Acton was confirmed by the United States Senate for his second term of office on September 26, 2011. President George W. Bush first nominated Mr. Acton as a Postal Rate Commissioner on November 7, 2005, and he was confirmed by the Senate on August 3, 2006. Prior to that appointment, Mr. Acton served as Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Postal Rate Commission and assisted in managing all aspects of agency operations. In addition to his years of public administration experience at the Commission, Mr. Acton has an extensive professional history of active involvement in the public policy arena 並_ including nine years of experience managing legislative and regulatory concerns as Staff Director for the Republican National Committee Counsel's Office. He held posts as Special Assistant to the RNC Chief Counsel as well as RNC Counsel's Office Government Relations Officer and Redistricting Coordinator. At the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, and the 2008 Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Commissioner Acton served as a member of the Committee on Arrangements Official Proceedings and Floor Operations team. Mr. Acton served a year in New York City as Deputy to the Chairman of the 2004 Republican National Convention, and during the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, Mr. Acton was Executive Director of the Committee on Permanent Organization. Prior to these posts he served in San Diego as Deputy Executive Director of the Committee on Rules for the 1996 Republican National Convention. He was also chosen as Executive Director of the RNC Redistricting Task Force, chief RNC liaison to the Republican National Lawyers Association, and lead coordinator for the RNC Campaign Finance Task Force. From 1989 until 1993, Mr. Acton was Deputy Redistricting Director for the National Republican Congressional Committee. Mr. Acton has also served as Assistant Director for RNC Major Donor Finance Programs as well as Assistant to the RNC Director of Computer Services. In managing Republican Party finance programs, Mr. Acton organized national direct mail marketing campaigns. Commissioner Acton is a native of Louisville, Kentucky and a graduate of the University of Louisville. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. Mr. Acton is an active member of the University of Louisville Alumni Association, the Kentucky Society of Washington, Republican National Lawyers Association, the United States Tennis Association, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
