Dean Heyl is currently the U.S. Department of Labor's Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management. He was previously the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at DOL.
Heyl is the Founder and President of Heyl Enterprises, where he managed a portfolio of diverse clients focusing on government relations and business development.
Heyl was the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Counsel for the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) from 2021 - 2023. This 20,000+ member group owns more than 1/2 of all hotels in the United States. He led the AAHOA DC office and was responsible for all legislative and regulatory issues affecting America's hotel owners
From 2018-2021, Dean was Director of the Office of Public Liaison for the U.S. Department of Labor. Previously, he held various positions at the International Franchise Association including Chief Legal Officer, and Vice President of Government Relations and Tax Counsel. Heyl served in the offices of the Idaho Attorney General and Governor. As the Attorney General's Legal Communications Coordinator, he was responsible for media relations and drafting legislation. Heyl also served as Hearing Officer for Child Support License Suspensions. His efforts resulted in thousands of non-custodial parents paying millions of dollars in overdue child support payments. Heyl continued his career in Idaho state government as Special Assistant to the Governor on information technology, adult and juvenile corrections, law enforcement, administration, finance, insurance, workers' compensation and building safety issues. Heyl returned to the Attorney General's Office as the Legislative Liaison. His responsibilities included lobbying for the Attorney General's legislative proposals and answering Idaho Legislators' legal questions.
Dean served on the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council (IRSAC), which provides an organized public forum for IRS officials and representatives of the public to discuss key tax administration issues.
Dean keeps politically active by providing strategic advice to campaigns. He has led election integrity efforts in California, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Virginia.
Dean is past instructor at the Leadership Institute and author of the article, "Don't Let Your Campaign Get Hijacked." Additionally, he has been a presenter on ballot integrity programs at the International Republican Institute (IRI). Heyl has served as RNLA's Vice President of Membership, Treasurer and a Member of the Board. He has also served as the Ward 6 Chair of the DC Republican Committee, past Chair of the DC Young Republicans, and is a member of the Federalist Society, the National Rifle Association (Life Member), and the Capitol Hill Club (Membership Committee). Heyl's civic activities have included the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Smithsonian Young Benefactors and the Corcoran Gallery's 1869 Society. Heyl is a frequent international traveler and has been a member of the Friends of Slovakia, Netherland-America Foundation, and People to People International. In 2007, he was a member of a Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) delegation to Taiwan. In 2009, he was an American Council of Young Political Leaders delegate to the Philippines.
