Chuck Meyer concentrates his practice at the intersection of international corporate, commercial technology and intellectual property law and general business legal counseling, with a focus on start-up businesses, appellate matters and data protection/data privacy compliance issues . He is also a part-time appellate prosecutor with the Hardin County, Texas, District Attorney's Office.
His 30+ year legal career has included positions as a Federal Judicial Law Clerk (D. Hawaii) and a Judicial Law Clerk for the Hon. Craig Wright, Justice, Ohio Supreme Court. He also worked as associate with Jones Day, as a partner at Fisher Broyles, as an IP Counsel for Compaq Computer Corporation (now Hewlett Packard) and in numerous positions of responsibility at Research In Motion Limited (RIM), now BlackBerry. While at RIM, Chuck served as the company's Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary, and subsequently as the Founding Director of RIm"s European subsidiary, BlackBerry Europe, in which position he served as the subsidiary's executive in charge. In that role, he directed all business and legal negotiations for the sale and license of all BlackBerry products, services and software for all the major European network operators. Since leaving RIM in 2004, Mr. Meyer has advised numerous small to medium enterprises, domestic and international, on various aspects of corporate, commercial and intellectual property law in a variety of industrial sectors including the technology and energy sectors, and has focused his practice in recent years on Data Protection and International Commercial Arbitration matters. In 2005, Chuck received an advanced degree in law, the Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL), from the University of Oxford, England. The BCL is the "taught" LLM that Oxford's Faculty of Law offers to students from common law countries. He is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional, Europe (CIPP/e) and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb).
During the 2006-07 and 2007-08 academic years, Mr. Meyer served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the University of Houston Law Center and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He has been a primary election candidate for Congress (2012, 2014) and for a Texas District Court Judgeship (2016). In the 2012 and 2016 Presidential Elections, he was part of a team of lawyers who, on election day, monitored compliance with election laws in Ohio as part of Lawyers for Romney and the Trump Campaign, and he will be assisting with election integrity issues this year as well.
