Democrats are touting the new H.R.4 (John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act) as a "momentous step to secure the sacred right to vote for generations to come." In a statement during the introduction of the bill, Nancy Pelosi accused her partisan opponents of conducting a "campaign of voter suppression" and assured listeners that Congress has a "moral responsibility" to pass the legislation.

The Democrat Commissioners of Federal Election Commission (FEC) led by Commissioner Ellen Weintraub have introduced a new scheme that the Institute for Free Speech (Institute) has labeled as unethical and unconstitutional. The scheme attempts to delegate the enforcement of federal campaign finance laws to private parties, and does so by refusing to close case files and by refusing to allow prevailing parties to defend themselves when the Commission declines to investigate a claim.

While the public is rightly focused on the Biden administration's disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, House Democrats chose again to focus on their own reelections. Today, it was a hearing on H.R. 4, the so-called John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. The only problem: the bill contains no text for the committee members to even review:

The Senate Democrats are at it again. After a marathon session of voting on amendments to the infrastructure package, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer attempted to force a vote on a series of bills that would facilitate a federal takeover of elections including the Corrupt Politicians Act. But as The Houston Chronicle reported, Senator Ted Cruz repeatedly objected to the motions:

In a back-and-forth with Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on the Senate floor around 3:30 a.m., the Texas Republican objected repeatedly as the New York Democrat sought consent for the Senate to consider a series of voting bills. Cruz denounced the legislation as “a federal government takeover of elections” and a “massive power grab by Democrats.”

Many Democrats have made it clear that they hope the filibuster is abolished, but a Democrat congresswoman is showing that there are still divisions within the party on the issue. In an interview with CNN, Stephanie Murphy (FL-7), once believed to be a contender for the Democratic nominee to challenge Republican Marco Rubio, expressed doubts over whether the filibuster should be discontinued.

Until recently, President Biden's approval ratings had not seen much fluctuation since he entered into office. In part, this can be attributed to the extreme party polarization that exists in presidential polling. But Biden's July ratings indicate that something has changed: his approval saw a drop from 56% in June to 50% in July, which Gallup notes is a sign of "meaningful decline." On Friday, lawyer and radio host Erick Erickson weighed in on several key issues facing the Biden Administration, which he believes are impacting the polls.

With the Democrats' federal takeover of elections in jeopardy, one Democrat leader is trying to force Joe Biden's hand on the filibuster. Previously, the President has given mixed signals on whether he supports the procedure which safeguards the influence of the minority party in the Senate. POLITICO reported:

House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) told POLITICO Biden “should endorse” the idea of creating a carveout to the legislative filibuster in the Senate for legislation that applies to the Constitution. In effect, the reform would make it possible for Democrats to pass their sweeping elections reform bill and another bill reauthorizing key sections of the 1965 Voting Rights Act with just Democratic support.

The more that comes to light about Myrna Pérez, the more it is obvious that any fair-minded person would oppose her nomination to the Second Circuit due to how progressive and highly partisan she is as a judicial nominee. Myrna Pérez is an extremist with views on felon re-enfranchisement that even Democrat caucus Senators like Angus King, who widely support felon re-enfranchisement, would never entertain.

In 2017, the idea of preserving the legislative filibuster was a bipartisan one. A coalition of Senators led by Republican Susan Collins and Democrat Chris Coons wrote a letter to Senate leadership to leave the filibuster in place.
