ICYMI: Even Senate Democrats are Fed Up With Pelosi’s delay

Some Senate Democrats want to get on with the impeachment trial and are fed up with Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s delays and gamesmanship.  Senate Judiciary Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said it most strongly:

“The longer it goes on, the less urgent it becomes,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, told Politico.

“So if it’s serious and urgent, send them over. If it isn’t, don’t send it over.”

This is interesting because Senator Feinstein comments could be interpreted to think that Pelosi’s partisan impeachment was not serious.  Feinstein walked back her comments.  Democrat Rep. Adam Smith also said he believed “it was time” to send the articles over, but like Feinstein, had to walk the comments back presumably over political pressure .

However, the dam has broke and a number of Senate Democrats have spoken out calling for the articles of impeachment to be sent over and calling out Pelosi for holding them.  These include Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Chris Coons (D-DE) Joe Machin (D-WV) and Chris Murphy of Connecticut who said:

I think the time has past. She [Speaker Pelosi] should send the articles over.

Speaker Pelosi broke her own rules for impeachment which she previously stated back in March of last year (emphasis added):

I’ve been thinking about this, impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path because it divides the country.

She had no Republican support in the House.  Now she is losing Democrat support in the Senate for holding impeachment up.  Pelosi is losing her political game.
