House Admin Republicans: H.R. 1 is a Partisan and Massive Congressional Overreach

With H.R. 1 scheduled to come to the House floor the first week of March, it is important to revisit just how destructive this legislation, first introduced during the 116th Congress, would be for the U.S. election system. The Committee on House Administration Republicans have exposed H.R. 1 for what it is — "a partisan and massive congressional overreach designed to keep their Democrat majority by nationalizing our elections."

If Democrats Refused to Support an Obama Nominee, GOP Should Oppose a Far Left Activist

Every day in different ways we are reminded that President Biden is no moderate.  Today three groups are fighting back against some of his most extreme nominees.  We wanted to shine the spotlight today on one of those nominees:

A trio of conservative organizations are launching a multi-million dollar advertising blitz aimed at undermining two of President Joe Biden’s high-profile nominees.

The ad buy, first reported by POLITICO, will air across cable news networks in Washington, D.C. and digital platforms starting Thursday. . . .

One $800,000 ad paid for by the Judicial Crisis Network titled “Dangerous Appointee” shows images of violence this summer in cities across America and states where murder rates are on the rise. “Biden appoints Vanita Gupta for a top job in the Justice Department,” the ad says. “She supports defunding the police, led a group that wants to reduce punishments on white supremacists, even terrorists. When our cities burned Gupta could’ve stood for law and order, for victims. Instead she advocated to let convicts out of jail.”

More Twitter Madness, Parler is Back

Twitter is more and more becoming the land of the woke and not a place for even neutral reporting. The latest controversy involves a tweet from Axios that was *gasp* critical of Vice President Harris. We would like to link to the original tweet, but we can’t... So here is Fox News' version of the story:

Axios drew criticism Monday after it deleted a tweet fact-checking Vice President Kamala Harris, who repeated the debunked claim that the Biden administration is "starting from scratch" with its coronavirus vaccine rollout.  . . .

Axios shared that exchange on Sunday evening, but included a comment by White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci, who refuted CNN's reporting last month that quoted anonymous Biden officials making the same claim.

"We certainly are not starting from scratch because there is activity going on in the distribution," Fauci said during a White House press briefing.

EAC Unanimously Adopts the VVSG 2.0

After several years in the making, the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) voted unanimously to adopt the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) 2.0, which is a significant step toward improving the manufacturing and testing of voting machines.  The four EAC Commissioners also approved the Principles and Guidelines and Requirements, the Testing and Certification Program Manual, and Voting System Test Laboratories (VSTL) Manual during the public meeting this morning.

"Today's vote on the VVSG 2.0 is the most important action the EAC has taken 15 years," said EAC Chairman Benjamin Hovland after the vote.  The VVSG 2.0's update of federal standards for voting technology is the most significant action since the VVSG 1.0 was adopted in 2005.

Former FEC Commissioners Express Concern Over the "For the People Act"

Earlier today, 9 former FEC Commissioners (including RNLA Board of Governors members Lee Goodman, Matthew Petersen, and Michael Toner) wrote to congressional leadership to express their concerns with Titles IV and VI of Division B of this Congress' version of the "For the People Act" (H.R. 1 and S. 1 respectively). These sections of the nearly 800-page bill dealing with the FEC directly and campaign finance would, as the former Commissioners put it, "complicate the law and hinder grassroots political speech and activism, with little or no benefit to public accountability, transparency, understanding of public policy, or reduction in corruption."

Governor Cuomo Tells New Yorkers “Who Cares” About Redistricting Law

Emmy winner and media darling New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is again saying, “Who cares?”  This time, however, it is not about the life and death of nursing home residents who were killed because of his COVID measures but rather a bipartisan New York redistricting policy.  As former New York Congressman John Faso writes in the Wall Street Journal:

[Former Democratic Party leader] Ed Koch must be turning in his grave. Less than a decade after the late former New York mayor’s successful crusade to create a fairer redistricting system for congressional and legislative districts, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and state Democrats are busy subverting Koch’s work...

In New York, Koch changed all that by leading a coalition of good-government groups and newspaper editorial boards to shame and cajole Gov. Cuomo and lawmakers from both parties into placing a redistricting reform amendment before the voters in 2014. New Yorkers voted 57% to 42% in favor of establishing a bipartisan commission to create new districts, guided by standards limiting politicians’ ability to rig elections by drawing districts that favor those in power.
